California Scannable IDs Card

The California DMV has updated its driver's license template to include enhanced security features that are both functional and visually appealing. The new design features a grizzly bear on the front, with a fine-line ghost image and a state map in the background. The background design has an engraving of a gold prospector, reflecting the state's rich history. Raised DOB overlaps the photo, with a tactile signature located below the photo and DOB on the right.

The license is made of polycarbonate material, with laser-perforated bear and state map for added security. The UV images on the front include DOB, Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, sailboats, and a small full-color ghost image. The back design includes a pier and wavy lines, with additional UV images.

The new license is laminated with a magnetic stripe and ID and 2D barcodes on the back. The license may also show an out-of-state address. However, licenses marked "FEDERAL LIMITS APPLY" cannot be used to establish eligibility for employment, voter registration, or public benefits. For those who hold a commercial driver's license, their license will be brown and marked as "COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE."
