Rhode Island Scannable IDs Card
Rhode Island residents can obtain both state ID and driver’s licenses that have a validity of 4-5 years. The expiration date of the card is set to the cardholder’s birthday. As of July 2017, all identification numbers on the cards start with the digit “4.”
The current design of Rhode Island IDs is issued by the DMV and features an optically variable pattern (OVD) holograph on the front that includes the state name, state seal, anchor, and stars. The outline of a bridge, shore, and net fluoresce green under UV light. Birthdate information is printed in three different locations, and micro printing and OVI printing are used to print certain parts. The back of the card features a purple design with waves and an anchor. The photo of the cardholder is set against a blue background.
These credit-card-style licenses have both 1D and 2D barcodes on the back, with the 1D using the Inventory Control Format and the 2D using the PDF417 QR format.
